Hoist Supporting Refurbishment at The Accumulator

Two hoists working in harmony at The Accumulator – Pimlico Pump House, Churchill Gardens Estate.

Two hoists operated side by side at The Accumulator – Pimlico Pump House within the Churchill Gardens Estate, supporting the final stages of this significant refurbishment project.

The tower originally formed part of the district heating system that utilised waste heat from Battersea Power Station, with the structure acting as a thermal store for the estate. Elements of the original equipment remained on site, preserving part of the building’s industrial history throughout the refurbishment works.

Reliable Vertical Transport Throughout the Project

As the refurbishment progressed towards completion, we carried out a progressive strike of the hoists in coordination with the scaffolding team. This staged approach allowed access and material transportation to continue safely and efficiently as scaffold levels were removed.

The goods and passenger transport platforms installed on the project played an essential role in:

  • Moving materials level by level
  • Supporting site access throughout the build
  • Assisting ongoing scaffold operations
  • Helping maintain programme efficiency from start to finish

Supporting Complex Scaffold and Gantry Installations

Projects involving scaffold gantries and phased dismantling require carefully planned access solutions that can evolve alongside the construction programme.

Our hoist systems are designed to provide:

    • Reliable goods and passenger transport
    • Safe access across multiple levels
    • Efficient support for scaffold operations
    • Flexible lifting solutions for changing site conditions

By working closely with scaffold contractors and site teams, we help ensure projects continue moving safely and efficiently throughout every stage of the build.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of using goods and passenger hoists on refurbishment projects?

Goods and passenger hoists provide reliable vertical transportation for both materials and workers, helping improve site efficiency, reduce manual handling, and maintain project timelines.

Can hoists be used alongside scaffold systems?

Yes, hoists can be installed to work in conjunction with scaffold systems and gantry setups, allowing safe and efficient access throughout refurbishment and dismantling phases.

What is a progressive hoist strike?

A progressive hoist strike involves removing hoists in stages as scaffold levels are dismantled. This helps maintain access and material movement while the project moves towards completion.

Are these hoists suitable for high-rise projects?

Yes, the hoists used on this project are capable of operating at heights of up to 100m, making them suitable for high-rise refurbishment and construction works.

Can hoists operate using temporary power solutions?

Yes, this setup was compatible with a 22kVA generator, providing flexible power options where required on site.
